During this 10 day practical project, you will learn basic theory of photography that will include photography skills such as composition, and how to properly operate/handle a digital SLR camera. Skills development and learning will come from a combination of introductory theory lessons, demonstrations, reference manuals and hands-on training.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: Task#1 ( 3-4 periods )
- Working in pairs, you will learn how to operate one of our class digital SLR cameras (Nikon D40, D60, D70, D90, D3000, OR Canon T5i, T3i, T3). While features on each camera may vary slightly, the basic operations are quite similar. See below for links to online manuals for each camera to help you with your skills development during this unit.
- Each partner is required to take a series of photographs that clearly demonstrate a strong understanding of the basic functions of a digital SLR camera. You may work together to learn how to operate the camera, but make sure each person develops a personal collection for submission later in the Flash Photo Gallery unit.
- During this unit, you will develop an understanding of the following photography/camera handling principles and skills:
- Safe handing of camera and lighting equipment
- Camera settings and adjustments
- Working with Light
- Shutter Speed
